So it looks like with the release of OpenBSD 5.3 the vr(4) driver has added support for baby jumbo frames.

Baby jumbo frames supported in vr(4) and sis(4) useful for e.g. MPLS, vlan(4) tag stacking (QinQ) and RFC4638 pppoe(4)

This is excellent, means no more need to compile a custom kernel 🙂 Makes me wish I’d submitted a patch now…
